Gümbet
Although nominally a suburb of Bodrum, Gümbet has grown to become a resort in its own right, with its own
special character, temperament and appeal. Some of the most popular hotels of the region are to be found in and
around Gümbet Bay.
The long sandy beach is undoubtedly a great attraction, but it's the combination of the sea, sun, sand and fun
that makes Gümbet so popular. The fun part, of course, is it rollicking night life lived in its multitude
of pubs, bars and discos, some boasting air-conditioning and sound-proofing. A different kind of fun is to be had
on the water where watersports are practiced with flair. Because the beach is within an easy walk from most hotels
and the central area, Gümbet is also a favourite with many families with children. It's a place for the young
and young at the heart.

popular beaches on the peninsula, the water is warm and the shallows gradually slope from the shore. A cool breeze
blows in from the mouth of the bay even on the hottest days. As a result Gümbet is also one of the most popular

The journey from Bodrum is a scenic treat, as the jagged rocks of the mountains jut out like
ancient faces; and the view over both sides of the peninsula is breathtaking. The ruins of the windmills at the
highest point of the road are a favourite place to stop and admire the view, and many locals have picnics here.
The road then swoops down through olive and citrus groves into Yalikavak, where the focal point is the srnall,
but very active harbour.
If you're just here for the day, spend some time in one of the central cafes in the 'centre' of the village, where
the local men while away their leisure hours playing OK and backgammon. They are always pleased to take on a foreigner
but invariably win!
The town beach is just a short walk around the bay from the harbour, and is never crowded. This side of the peninsula
is generally cooler than the Bodruni/G5mbet side, and the beach has the benefit of a prevailing light breeze and
small waves.
Getting there: There are regular dolmuses from the central Bodrum bus station to Yalikavak, and also a service
operated by the Yalikavak council which terminates by the restored windmill at the small bus station/ car park
on the seafront at Yalikavak. Journey time from Bodrum is approximately 30 minutes.
