The classical Antique Theatre of Bodrum is located above the main highway. All ancient sites are within the
area of the old walled city of ancient Halicarnassos.

These days Turkcell and Ericsson have finished another of their extensive restoration projects
in Bodrum, the site of the Antique Theatre.
The renovation of the Antique Theatre (built during Greek and Roman times) will be completed now in June and open
to the public. Situated directly on the main road from Turgutreis to the airport, unfortunately the traffic noise
disturbs enjoying this beautiful scenery. The infrastructure of the area needs improvement and there are plans
to divert the main road, there is even the idea to have the road underground, that would be just marvellous.
A previous restoration between 1976 and 1985 could not be completed due to a lack of funding. In 2000 Turkcell
and Ericsson started the project again under the supervising by Bodrum's Museum for Underwater Archaeology. The
most visible sign of the new restoration to the visitor is the entrance to a tunnel, which was found during the
first restoration but not opened or investigated until now. It is guessed that this tunnel goes into a tomb chamber.
